Private New York City-based family seeks an experienced and energetic Sous Chef / Second Chef to assist their Primary Chef on a seasonal basis with their culinary needs at their Southampton summer estate. The scope of this role includes everything from meal preparation, service, procuring supplies, cleaning the kitchen and organizing the pantry. The Sous Chef is solely responsible for creating children’s meals and will work with the Chef to create menus & meals for the principals as well as their guests. Experience with high volume is a plus as the family consistently entertains and hosts large dinner parties.
Schedule for this position consists of a 5-day flex workweek, inclusive of weekends. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to work long shifts, especially when guests are in residence. Travel between Position is available for Live-In or Live-Out, with Live-In accommodations consisting of a shared room, bath and pool within a company staff house.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Procuring the highest quality ingredients that are locally sourced, organic, and minimally processed
• Caring for and maintaining silver, crystal and fine China
• Maintaining a safe environment as children are present throughout the day
• Cooking daily staff meals
• Assisting the Chef with the creation of fresh, seasonal meals with the ability to replicate any dish
• Assisting with inventory and stocking pantries and wine cellar, organizing the pantry, etc.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as needed and per request, or as directed by the Chef
| | | Requirements:
• Minimum 3 – 5 + years related experience working in a private residence as a Private Chef
• Culinary Degree from an accredited culinary school
• Excellent references required from both current and previous employers
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Comfortable working as part of a team, has a “can-do,” above and beyond attitude
• Ability to replicate any dish
• Previous experience working as a Sous Chef / Second Chef, or in a similar position for a private family or home; ability to take direction
• Wine knowledge and wine pairing ability a strong plus but not required
• Exceptional hygiene and knowledge of food safety procedures
• Attention to detail and a meticulous cleanliness; exceptional organizational skills and dedication to responsibilities
• Valid Driver’s License; willing and able to drive; car not required
• Legally able to work in the United States
