Description:

Private international luxury villa seeks a talented and dynamic, yet energetic and hungry Private Chef to assist with the full time culinary needs of their exclusive high profile resort. The villa is situated in the heart of Virgin Gorda, one of the British Virgin islands to the east of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The villa is privately owned, and rents out weekly to discerning private clients seeking an all-encompassing remote getaway experience. The resort hosts twelve full-time staff, and seeks a talented Private Chef to round-out their hard-working and dynamic team.

The Private Chef will be responsible for the full-time culinary of the villa and its guests – up to 10+ people on any given week - and will cater to both lunch and dinner needs, as well as snacks, for the guests and their children at that time. The average schedule consists of a 5 – 6 day flexible workweek, roughly 10am – close, with at least one full day off per week. The villa is rented on a Saturday – Saturday schedule, where at minimum one full day the residing guests will be off-property for all meals. The resort if closed for yearly maintenance each September, and thus no work will be required for the entirety of that month.

As the villa is located on an island, provisioning takes extreme planning and skill; as such the ideal candidate must understand how to properly shop and plan in accordance of limited grocery availability and transportation.

The villa kitchen is an open floor-plan, and guests have the opportunity to engage directly with the Chef during mealtimes. As such, the ideal candidate must be comfortable engaging with the clientele while crafting meals, as well as developing personal relationships with those residing in the villa on any given week.

The ideal candidate will come from either a private service or yachting background where catering to vast and varied dietary preferences and needs simultaneously is second nature. The ideal candidate must have a desire to reside in the British Virgin Islands, and be comfortable with an island-style life. Sponsorship and associated visas will be fully paid for by the resort, as well as $1,000 toward housing of the candidate’s choice, and gas as related to supply procurement and shopping.)

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Creating fresh, healthy and flavorful lunches and dinners for the villa guests each week, while catering to the specific dietary needs and preferences of each guest in attendance
• Souring the finest and highest quality of produce and groceries from local grocers, purveyors, and markets; provisioning in accordance to weekly timeframes, ensuring grocery availability at all times
• Supply procurement and shopping for the villa as it relates to kitchen stock items and food; maintaining inventories, ensuring no items are expired, etc.
• Allowing effortless relationships to form with guests while residing in the villa; welcoming guests into the open floor-plan kitchen and entertaining with charisma and knowledge while preparing and prepping meals
• Working closely with the villa service team to ensure beautifully prepared tables and table settings, as well as proper stock levels for cutlery, dinnerware, barware, etc.
• Assuming additional culinary-based roles for the guess as needed and upon request
 
 
Requirements:

• Strong command of English language; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Energetic and charismatic personality; easily able to interact and entertain guests via both FOH and BOH; comfortable connecting and building personal relationships with weekly guests staying at the villa
• Minimum 3 + years related experience working in a similar culinary capacity for a private family or aboard a yacht
• Culinary degree a STRONG plus but not required; candidate must understand how to craft simple, yet elegant delicious food with a strong understanding of time management and ever-changing client preferences
• Excellent references required from both current and previous employers
• Extensive cooking & culinary skills required for mainly Lunches & Dinners, dessert-making proficiency a strong plus
• Experience with entertaining; comfortable accommodating meals up to 10 people on a daily basis
• Superior organization skills with a willingness to go above and beyond in all aspects of the job
• Adept in receipt and expenditure reporting via Excel; must be savvy in collecting receipts, tallying totals and sharing expenses / budgeting with the General Manager (via Dropbox, etc.)
• Comfortable purchasing groceries and purveying supplies in a more remote location; experienced with procuring supplies for 1+ week at a time
• Valid Driver’s License with zero points on license; OK to bring his/her own car to island for daily driving as related to role (gas to be fully reimbursed)
• Valid Passport; wiling and able to apply (all expenses paid) for a Visa necessary to work in the British Virgin Islands; no limitations in terms of background blemishes
• Legally able to work in the United States for any employer
